Who may apply?
Individuals and/or their families with physical, developmental or emotional disabilities. The person receiving the award must be a New Hampshire resident. Grants are awarded for people with the following disabilities:
- Physical Disability
A physical disability is a condition that presents a long-term barrier to independently accomplishing tasks of daily living including walking and driving. People with temporary conditions expected to improve or are sufficiently controlled with medication or treatment such as a broken bone, asthma, recovery from surgery or short-term illness would not qualify. - Emotional Disability – Adults
Adults diagnosed with a Severe and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI) which includes schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder and borderline personality disorder are eligible. - Emotional Disability – Children
Eligible diagnoses for children are broader but must constitute a significant mental health issue that impacts their daily level of functioning. - Intellectual, Cognitive, Learning or Developmental Disability
People with acquired intellectual/cognitive disabilities from brain injury, dementia or who are identified with a developmental disability or delay or significant learning disability by an MD, social service agency or other qualified medical or human service entity may be eligible for Harry Gregg funds.
Household Income Eligibility
The Foundation considers, but is not obligated to, multiple sources of public data on Minimum, Poverty and Livable Wage scales, including the Glasmeier, Amy K. Living Wage Calculator. 2023. Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Below are sample (total) household income limits for some families. For other family sizes and compositions, please the Grant Administrator for information.

How much is awarded?
Grants are limited to $1,200 but are often less as award amounts are dependent upon the number of requests received tri-annually (three times a year).
How can funds be used?
Funds may be requested for a broad range of purposes, but must specifically benefit the individual for whom funds are sought.
What are acceptable requests for funding?
Examples of acceptable purposes include, but are not limited to:
- Costs (up to $500) of non-reimbursed medical or therapy treatments not covered by insurance or other programs
- Continuing education or career development opportunities
- Specialty equipment services or supplies
- Respite services to the recipient or caregivers
- Computers (up to $500) and adaptive software
- Camp tuition and recreational activities – applications for camp tuition or recreational activities are reviewed and awarded on an ongoing basis starting in February. The funds go quickly; applications submitted early in the year are more likely to be funded
- Vocational, academic classes or specialized (requiring vehicle modifications or specialized instruction) driver evaluation and training
- Modifications to living area, work site or vehicle (vehicle repairs up to $500 with written estimate with limit of two grants)
What items are not funded?
The Harry Gregg Foundation does not provide funding for:
- Eye exams or eyeglasses
- The purchase of used vehicles other than certain handicap modified vehicles
- Medical co-pays and deductibles
- Housing costs, including rent or mortgage payment
- Heating fuel
- Dental care or dentures
- Hearing aids
- Lift chairs
- Reimbursement for paid products or services over six months old
- Projects costing more than $4,800 will not be considered unless the applicant can show funds or requests pending from other sources, in addition to the Harry Gregg Foundation
When can I apply?
Grant applications to the Harry Gregg Foundation may be submitted at any time throughout the year, but only once in a six-month period. Applications will be acknowledged when received, and a specific review timetable will be provided at that time. A limit of four grants (five if one or more grants are for recreational purposes) is the maximum an individual can receive in a lifetime.
How do I apply?
We do not accept paper applications. All applications must be submitted through our on-line application.
To verify eligibility for HGF funds, a diagnosis of the applicant’s disability generated by a qualified medical, social service agency or human service entity must be uploaded with the application. Applications cannot be submitted without it.
Please be sure to include income from all the adults in the household from all sources. Applicants are considered minors until age 21, so the income of all parents or guardians of anyone under age 21 must be included. Verification may be requested. Requests from applicants age 25 and under are a priority of the HGF Trustees.
What are the application deadlines and award dates?
Decisions regarding awards and declinations on grant requests are made by the HGF Trustees three times a year on the second Tuesdays on April, August, and December. See a full list of application and decision dates.
What are the conditions of a grant?
Awards are granted on the basis of demonstrated need, ability of the Foundation to measurably affect the quality of life of the recipient and the financial need of the applicant. Grants are made contingent upon the assurance of the applicant that the funds will be (or have been) used as specified in the grant application.
At the sole discretion of the trustees, grants may be paid either prior to, or after completion of, the purpose for which the grant was awarded, to either the applicant directly or to a vendor or service provider. Payment generally takes ten to fourteen days following the receipt of a signed Terms of Award and proper documentation in the form of a paid receipt for reimbursement or invoice to make payment to a vendor or service provider.
What if my request is denied?
If the Foundation has declined a request and the reason for the declination can be corrected, the applicant may reapply six months after the original request was submitted. Such applications should be complete in all respects without reliance upon previously submitted information.
